Built in 1942 and named in memory of Captain Allison W Strauss who died when his plane crashed into Darwin Harbour during a Japanese air raid. This was one of a series of air fields built to protect our shores during World War 2. To visit Strauss Airstrip travel south on the Stuart Highway and past Noonamah Tavern – just look for the WWII planes on the side of the road.
